Metropolitan Fire Association is a federally registered not-for-profit corporation established in 1976. We were the first fire explorer post in the nation with our own fire apparatus and have become the model for other explorer posts around the country. One our most important goals to create a better understanding of Fire Prevention & Fire Safety.
The Explorers Program accepts male and female members between the ages of 13 1/2 through 18 years of age and adults 18 years old or older. Some of the events the Explorers train in are fundamentals of firefighting, law, CPR, first-aid, and emergency preparedness. They also participate in musters, parades, and special events in addition to preparing for civil service exams. All events and training are supervised by adults who work in various emergency service fields.
The mission/purpose for which Metro Fire is organized are:
a) To encourage members to learn, understand, and appreciate the duties and responsibilities of firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and others involved in law enforcement. To encourage members to consider pursuing careers as firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement officers.
b) To acquire certain property such as fire trucks for their use in parades, other civic and social functions, to promote the activities of the organization, and to provide the community with emergency service.
c) To encourage other civic, social, and fraternal organizations; for example, the Explorer Division of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), and to sponsor the aforementioned organization and its activities.
d) To do all things consistent with the bylaws of Metro Fire and laws of the State of New York. Also, to encourage and promote the purpose and objective of this organization.
